what would you use to guard the heater ( live rock ) ??
Maybe? Or I bet you could easily construct a little cage around it. If it's not so close to it that it'd melt or something the plastic stuff from an arts and crafts place would probably do the trick and be easy to work with. Hopefully a seahorse knowledgable person can tell you better.

my seahorse wraps it's tail around everything never seen it on the heater tho. seen it on the intake for my filter tho. sometimes it will wrap around my huge hermit crab and ride it around it's halarious.
anyway pretty much if u don't have an empty tank it will be ok i have about 600gph ( not sure on auctul gph but probably around the 450-500 range) in a 30 gal tank and she seems to do fine with the current in there

my lfs sells a heater guard that goes around the heater to prevent fish from being burned.
nimo, make sure you check out seahorse.org if you haven't already. Read everything you can about seahorses before you buy one, and know that it's much more of a responsibility than most other tanks.
