Hi, everyone i am new here i have been reading here for about 3 months and thought i would join. i have been in saltwater for 2 yrs 6 months. and have been reading everything i can never can learn it all.... but, what i have learned about ick is .in the very beginng of set up to take it very slow it takes a long time to get water, sandbed, and rock to get going. it does go faster for people who have a astablished tank of a year or two because they can use their water from the established tank to help get the new one going. what i have read is some fish are cought by netting and some are sianide cought and we have to look for the signs of this on the fish, they are thin and not as active and have shedding and some have spots on them ,and breath heavy many other signs not eating these fish are not going to make it even if we do everything we can. and another thing i found out is some fish stores use copper in their holding tanks this keeps the fish from showing any signs of sickness kind of puts them in a proctive bubble so to speak. if they do not tell us they use copper in their holding tanks and we do not acclumate the fish for at least 1 an a half to 2 hrs this fish still has some copper in its system must take out and replace water about every half hour from the bag, then some people do a fresh water dip on them i guess it would be up to you and how your fish is doing, some people us a sick tank to hold them in a few days and don't. some times it could be your tanks setup like powerheads old ones can sometimes give off electric currents in the water and the fish fell this and can get lateral line, so checking for this another thing, shy fish can get ick easy if other fish pick on them, i have read that using coral vit helps keep ick down and also have cleaner shrimp,i think having filter feeders help to like anemonies, and having good current flow also. i don't know but, this is what i have learned the hard way and we all do but, i know the fish store is their to make a sale, and alot of the help is just that help!!!! so you must read read read befor you buy any fish or coral. they all need different things and if we don't know what they need it cost us money and we could lose everything because of die off from the things we love to want in our tanks.
