Am I the only one noticing a lot more people getting out of the hobby lately? in our local buy sell and trade magazine there have been a lot more "full setups" "tank teardown" sells than usual.

Can't be surprised. As the economy goes down the tubes, so do expensive hobbies.

Yeap, now is the time to buy a used tank/setup... Another example is pool guys, people are firing them left and right to cut back on expenses. I have a friend who works for a pool supply store and they are slammed with people needing to know "what to do"...Same for all the aqurium maintenance guys, people are getting rid of the tanks....Here in Vegas there are killer deals on HUGE tanks...ATM is a local manufacturer that sells stupidly expensive custom tanks (quoted me 12k for a 300g) and lots of people purchased these tanks over the past few years when there was an excess of cash floating around, now the tanks, boats, coin collections, 4x4's and all the other toys are going for cheap prices... I know of a 2000g totaly custom tank setup that was just sold for 5k, original cost was above 25k

I have never in my life seen more large PU and SUVs on the side of the roads with FOR SALE signs on them.

Kinda like here in Vegas, tricked out Hummers were all over the place, now you don't see them at all

There are alot of people getting out of the hobby here, but that is just because they lost everything. To bad I'm not in a situation to pickup a 200+ gallon tank.

in Miami is the same thing. Everything is worst. So many cars in the streets that are for sale. Many tanks for sale at my lfs. Just recently they sold a 170 for $150. I didn't believe it but they did. I'm for sure not getting out this hobby. I love swf. I wanna study marine biology.

it was also a trend I noticed when trying to sell some frags, usually they go pretty quick. this time they lingered for longer than I like. often I will have locals on a waiting list for ceartain things, my waiting lists have been getting shorter and shorter to the point of non existence. rather disturbing.

I am getting out of the hobby as well, not really a money issue ( Butch ( hubby)) just got back to work after being off for about 8-9 months. he had his own construction business and no one was getting work done. The largest employer in our area went from have 15,000 people down to 2,000 so no one had any money to get work done.
My reasoning is that the frogs that i raise and breed are just taking up too much time and I would love to devote more time to them.
For some odd reason the frog trade is stilll going well. I use to take 20-40 frogs to a show with me and come back with 10-20. Now I am buying other people froglets( when I dont have enough for a show) when they have a surplus and still managing to sell out at the shows.

Good thing I'm in the market for a bigger tank right now!
And so I lurk...

Nothing wrong with that, it's a good time to buy big tanks. Beside the people selling them usually need the money, just be fair...

I have been watching for a deal on a larger system here in Denver and I have not seen any deals that would make me agree with this . There has been the 55-75's a few 125's but nothing thats out of the ordinary .

maybe your local economy is doing ok, where as some other places arent doing as well. obviously not everyone in the US will feel the pinch the same.up here in maine there have been contractors going out of bussiness left and right because there is little work to be had. small businesses are also closing out at a high rate, I myself am a carpenter and my boss has had four different million+ dollar houses back out of building due to the "economy" and elections.
