I have a laptop from 6 or 7 years ago. It only has 32 megs of mem. It sux. I just deleted windows millenium from it (yuck :nope: ) And i am currently installing the server production of Redhat 9.x I want to run a VNC client on this computer. Then i can access my unix capabilites from my computer in my room.
Not sure on how to accomplish this. I have never had much experience with VNC before.

aaron,
i'm alittle confuse on what your trying to do. if access to another computer is what your after, it can simply be done with microsoft remote desktop. imo, its faster then vnc.

can mirosoft RD run on a redhat distro of linux only operating the basic text command line?
I have the minimal installation of linux running on my laptop. I will run cat 5 to it from my router. when i need my server i will VNC it or maybe i can use microsoft remote desktop....assuming it can be run on linux.
I know it sounds odd...but it is. It all sounds so perfect in my head...but when i think about how to run it i get cloudy.

No i can connect to my XP box. I just need the info on where to get VNC for windows. I have never used any remote admin tools except for sub7 or back orifice...which are trojans....other than that i have no legit experience with setting up a remote network.
Can i just download VNC from the internet?
Another idea i had was to run a modem on my Laptop and dial into it from my desktop....sure it would tie up two phone lines but we have two that we do not use here.
All I need is my access to bash from windows.
does this sound complicated?

i dont think you can download from the internet, but probably can give you access to my server to download it. if you really really need vnc, then email me. doc@----.com
if accessing to your xp box is all that you want, then i think you should've just left your laptop running window me. should try installing windows 2000, not xp. xp takes way too much cpu and memory.

I cant get a readily avaliable copy of 2000. I definately would though. I hate ME it sucks....hard, and the laptop is already insanely slow....that is why i was confined to server text mode of linux. :)
Ill see what i can dig up and if i still need VNC i will email you.
thanx!

lol... i feel for you. a slow computer will drive anyone nuts. if you need software, i'm the person to get it from :D
if you have dsl or cable modem, i can give you access to download lots of these stuff. just let me know what you need.
seems to me that you're pretty familiar with linux... maybe you should consider being a sys admin for linux. it pays $$$... a lot of companies are switching from solaris to linux, since linux is FREE and can be run on intel platform.
