Seriously,

For some reason I have had a string of fish die on me. A chalk bass, and a lawnmower blenny. The Chalk Bass was getting chased by an aggressive ocellaris, and the blenny died 2 days later. I have done nothing different except to add phosguard, I did a 20% WC 1 week ago. I have a test kit and here are my parameters
amm-0 ppm
nit- - ppm
nitrate-a little more than 0 ppm, but closer to 0 than 5 ppm
ph 8.2
s/g-1.024
temp: 78
I have no clue why this is happening, phosguard (highly unlikely).

Sorry to hear of the loses it sucks

Was there any signs of white spots or a sort of white film on their fins before they passed, maybe any red spot or lines?

Tell us more about the setup. Equipment, filtration, lighting, etc.
38gal
t5 (2 24w, 1 10k daylight, 1 actinic)
wet/dry filter
koralia powerhead
and I am in the process of converting my wet/dry to the ATS DIY that was posted on this site.
I know that I have no protein skimmer, and this ATS, is in no way meant to replace one-but it will hold me down until
I can find one that I feel isn't too pricey for a tank this small. I have been looking at the prizm by red sea, but we'll see.
mony97: I have not seen any signs of white spots or film, and no red spots or lines (septicimia?)
in fact the only visible sign that the fish were unhealthy was the blenny, who was breathing heavily and perched on a rock for a day with his fins clamped. Thats when I started to test like crazy. By the time I found the chalk bass, he was already being eaten by snails/crabs so no telling there. Something has to be up though, because I also have not been able to keep cleaner shrimp alive, some dying within the hour of adding them. I wonder if my test kit is off, or if my heater is going crazy. So many things it could be...

How old are your test kits and what brand are they? If your tests are more than a year old, throw them out. (I throw mine out after 9 months.)
What do you use to check salinity?
Have you tested for chlorine and O2 level?
Have your LFS double check your tests and your salinity.
What are you feeding?

My tets kits are about 4 months old, and they are API.
I use a Instant Ocean swing arm hydrometer (I know that is not super reliable, and yes a refractometer is on the way)
I have not tested for chlorine or 02, good question I have no clue how to.
Im bringing in a watersample for LFS, as far as food: new life spectrum, freeze dried krill, formula 2 cubes, and mysis cubes.
I was overfeeding in the beginning, then noticed it and corrected before it became a problem. Internal parasites?

You mention 3 fish total.. how many fish DID you have in the tank, and now how many are left?
This is only a 38 gallon afterall.. You may have experienced an ammonia spike that caused the dieoff.

total I had
2 ocellaris
1 LM blenny
1 Chalk Bass
1 Sixline Wrasse
1 Royal Gramma (whom I returned after he was a little agressive, and got some credit and the chalk bass)
All of these fish were added slowly, over a 4 month period.

6 fish in a 38 gallon seems like too much to me.. add in overfeeding and I bet that's where your problem was/is.

ok update, I moved the clowns to secure tank and they are being babysitted as of the moment.
I did a 50% WC, plus changed out the carbon in the sump, and added a polyfilter.
As of the moment, my guesses for the tank is that there was some sort of chemical that somehow managed to get into the tank.
I am converting mollies right now, to be held in this tank for a week or so--with the point of the experiment to see if we can keep fish in the tank alive for now. Corals and inverts still thriving....wish me luck!

how about some undried PVC glue from the ATS?
as far as the wet/dry conversion, the actual work part has not taken off yet. Still planning/researching..
I got some mollies, and am going to see if they can survive for a week and if they can then I think its a go for the fish.
side note: inverts are still doing great, frogspawn and xenia seem to have bounced back after looking sickly two weeks ago.
