set up and cycling

Wow. I have to say I am amazed at the wealth of information found online. The tank is ordered and on its way (24g jbl nanocube) and I am wondering a few things here as I prep for set up.
1) Live rock : if you ordered cured (vs pre cured or uncured) are you losing out on any benefits that may come with a longer cycle? Is stability compromised if your initial tank cycle is a week or so (cured), as opposed to a longer uncured 2-4 week period. I'm all for avoiding the living room stank and a shorter period assuming integrity isn't compromised on a new tank.
2) Lighting: This that and the other. 50/50 comes with the deluxe nanocube, however, talks of VOH or t5 and MH. I get it. I understand some species are compromised without the added intensity. However, what is feasible in a nanocube or smaller tank. MH's on a nanoreef, must require chillers and the like, so are there a wide a variety of soft corrals and inverts that you can pick from, and just avoid the clam or two in an effort to stick with basic lighting? Or assuming I get the bug and must... buy... more... what options are there for retro bulbs on these kit and caboodles... surely others have gone through the same thing. Do you end up replacing the whole hood?
3) Species: I see the basic breakdowns that are offered about fish specifics and selections. Are there any non-store sights that people use to research species, not just for their temperament and work/don't work concept, but perhaps even taking it a step further to creating a site specific region of the ocean, and determining which species are native to a specific area? "reef safe" or "mod light" seems a little too vague to me. Especially considering all the forums from people of who ate who, and whose now trying to get rid of a purchase nuisanse.
Thanks gang, looking forward to the process.

1) If you order the LR online it will be uncured (baiscaly) by the time it comes to you, unless you're getting it from a LFS and its been in their tanks awhile you're going to have to do some curing (even then you'll do some).
2) I would go w/T5 in this case. I got the bug and ended up going through a few fixtures, if you think you might get the bug... get a decent fixture now.
3) As for species... I would post your ideas here and let us comment, that may be the easiest way to go along with normal research.
