After I crashed my hex tank last week cause I was stupid Im thinking about setting it back up. I have two questions. I have a 90 gal tank up and running for about 7 years with live rock sps lps leathers and so on. Ist question can I just take about 15 gal of water out of my 90 and 20 gal of water out of my buddys tank that has been up and running for 10 years and be good to go.My 2nd question is I took all the live rock out and just put it in buckets. Its been sitting there all week. Is it ok to use it or should i throw it away? Thanks

of course i could just give you the answer but with all due respect after 7 years in the hobby i have to ask why would you think it MAY make your tank good to go

Just because ive been in the hobby for 7 years does not mean I know everything. I have one guy that helped me get started and the more I look around on here the more I have to question what he has told me. To his credit my tank is doing ok but im starting to think it could be better

Please don’t take this personally (if you stick around awhile you will get to know my personality )but your questions relate to the fundamentals of bio-filtration. Something even an entry level hobbyist which you are not should know. In any event i am sorry if i offended you and i am sure others will help you out

you did not offend me at all. I was asking for input from people that might have a better idea than I do. Once again you did not offend me Im new on this board and just looking for conversation. Besides I just might learn something.

How big is your hex Bob? You are talking about just firing that one up again right? You can just take more out of your 90. I have a 65 gallon and I always do 30 gallon water changes. Doesnt mess up anything as long as you have enough live rock.
As far as the rocks, if they are just sitting in buckets with no circulation or heater then there will be some die off and they will need to be cycled again in the new tank.

I think what Joe is getting at is that water doesnt contain the things needed to make your tank "good to go"
Sorry Joe, I held out 2 whole days this time!

So does it need to be addressed to "Joe" or does he need to "PM" you. He already asked a question!
