Setting Nano need some info

Hey everybody,
Well my girlfriend just ordered me a 12g nano deluxe tank. I just have a few question for setting it up. I plan on setting it up as a reef tank and I have 16lbs of "pre-cured" live rock coming for it. I have a few questions though:
1. How much live sand is needed?
2. Do I need to heat the tank?
3. I have a 55 reef that has been set up for a while should I use water out of that tank to get it started?
Thanks guys any info would be greatly appreciated.

1. It depends...are you wanting sand for cosmetic purposes or to function as a DSB (deep sand bend) that may help with filtration? Also, you could just buy a little bit of live sand and seed non-live sand with it to save some money. :)
2. It's always a good idea to keep a heater in the tank. You want to keep the water around 79-81 degrees. Where I live, winters can get around 10°F so a heater is a must.
3. You could use that water if you wanted, or you could just make up a fresh batch. I think whatever works best for you will be just fine. :D

For a DSB, you'll want around four inches of sand (a little more or a little less would be fine too). I don't know the specs of your tank or the exact sand you're using, so it'd be hard to give you an exact measure of how much you'll need. There is a Sandbed calculator on another site but I'm not allowed to post it. If you'd like, I could send it to you if you give me your email address.
About the cycled water thing...I'm really not too sure on this one. Inevitably, some of the bacteria from your other tank would be transfered over to your nano in the water. This is beneficial as it will help you establish a nice bacteria colony for the new tank. As far as cycling LR goes, cycling just consists of the dead stuff to finish dying off wherein it will be replaced with the new and living. I would say go ahead and use water from your established tank because it can't hurt anything. I don't think using new water would hurt anything either; I used new water to cure my LR and everything went smoothly. Hope this helps. :)

i have 20lb. ls in mine and its about 2.5 inches thick so u may need about 30lb. as for the cycled water i would just make up some new and start it off fresh.
