I would definately go with an Aqua Clear Mini-20.........much better filter than a Azoo Palm filter and it takes up not that much more space if at all. Has sufficient space to place a mat type 7.5 watt heater if needed, and sufficient space for some live rock rubble and macro algae if desired. I had been usuing the Azoo Palm hobs for some time as I got a deal on a box load of them, but over a short period of time they allstarted ot make lots of noise. I have AC (aqua Clears) that are over 12 years old and quiet as a church mouse yet.

I didn't think a 2 gallon hex would work with the size of a Aqua Clear 20 HOB Filter. Look into dimensions. A 2 Gallon, you could keep around, 1 or 2 dwarf hermit, 1 or 2 snails, and the pom pom crab, or shrimp.
I think of it like this:
A tiny clean up crew
and a "bigger" animal, like a more expensive crab or shrimp compared to the clean up crew.
I would do a cool crab like the pom pom, OR sexy shrimp and the tiny clean up crew, with a few corals.
And as everyone says about pico tanks:
Watch parameters, make sure to top off.
