setting up first time, sand bed?or under filter

first time set up. need help on if i should put a under ground filter
w/ crushed corel then sand?
or no filter w/ sand?

Welcome to the board!
You should definetly go with just a sand bed. Crushed coral has to be vacumed out and if you don't you will have alot of nitrate in your tank.

Ditch the undergravel filter and crushed coral... sand looks way better even without all the benefits.

I started with Crushed coral but threw it out and went with a deep sand bed . it does look much better

welcome. no ugf, we had one with no problem for 2.5 years in out 55gl, but you can only put so much rock on top of it, and sooner or later you may have a problem.
we took the ugf out of the 55gl when we moved but we kept the cc. we've had no problems with cc, but if i were to set up another tank I'd use ls.
