setting up new 100gallon

I currently have a 55 gallon FO that I got sorta inherited from a friend and I am in the early stages of setting up an old 6ft 100 gallon that I have from my days of breeding cichlids. I guess I am more interested in having some larger fish in this tank. I have a small emperor angel and 3 clowns in my 55 now that I would like to move to the 100.
What are your opinions on setting this up. I'm not sure from what I'm reading that live rock and dsb would be enough filtration to handle a large angel and possibly a tang or a couple of other bigger fish.
Also I have seen some fluidized sand filters for sale are these any good or just nitrate factories.
