Sexy Shrimp

So, I've been doing a bit of research on Sexy Shrimp and most places say they are very sociable and like to be kept in groups. But "groups" is kind of vague and I was wondering if anyone could tell me how many shrimp would be a good group for a 55...?

Also, would the Sexy Shrimp get along with other shrimp? Fire Shrimp, maybe?

Thanks in advance!

Sexy shrimp do well in groups... of course groups is a relative term. I have seen them in groups of two, three, four and five before. It just depends on how big the host coral is and what your budget is.

Also, I would not pair them with fire shrimp or coral banded shrimp. I have had them in the past with skunk cleaner shrimp and peppermint shrimp before without issues.

When you take your sexy shrimp out of the bag, make sure to place him on the coral that will host it. If the shrimp lands somewhere else besides the host coral, there is a good chance it will not survive.

Why is that? Do the sexy shrimp need coral, specifically, to survive or is it about having shelter? Would lots of live rock suffice?

Sexy Shrimp are guests on host corals. They live on corals and they take care of them and the host coral provides shelter and protection. I wouldn't put a sexy shrimp in a tank without a host coral. Usually, people put them on frogspawns and hammer corals for them to host. There are other options out there as well, but no, I wouldn't put a sexy shrimp in a tank with just live rock, they are too small and too fragile to do without a host.
