Howdy.
A friend of mine has some shark eggs they he wants to give me.
He says they are spotted reef sharks?.
(never herd of them myself)
Iv delt with a reef tank, and fish only saltware tank and have an established tank now.
I know I need to setup a small 10gallon to keep the eggs in and keep direct light off the eggs.
But thats about as far as it goes as far as sharks goes.
I hear that you can change the water temp and make the eggs hatch male or female?.
What are the temp ranges?
What should I be watching in the water with the eggs?.
Presumably I should be adding some kind of suppliment to the water to assist embryo growth?.

Well, they are White Banded Cat Sharks.
I have a 10Gallon setup with a damsel in it to hatch the sharks in a controlled environment and keep a close eye on them.
I have a 40g to the side to move them too when they get bigger, and to hold them while I build my HUGE pool/tank.

While I've never dealt with hatching sharks personally, I have some general knowledge. The first trick is getting them to eat. I've heard statistics as high as 50% of hatched sharks starve to death. Many will only take live prey at first, and will need to a lot of attention to wean to frozen food. My lfs hatched a shark 3 weeks ago and still have not gotten it to eat. Have a lot of live shrimp on hand.
Also, sharks require exact, constantly even salinity. I'm not sure of the details, I think it has to do with their sensory organs. An auto top off is pretty much a given. Other than that, their water requirements are pretty much the same as a reef.
Sharks are very rewarding, and if you have the patience and ability to house them, you should definitely give it a shot!
