Shark Feeding

I have a baby bamboo shark and he has been out of his egg for about 2 weeks. I cut him out prematurely, so when he came out he still had his yolk sac on. Well in a week it was gone and it has been a week since then. Now he just kinda lounges around hiding under rocks. I am trying to feed him whole silversides and he will just sit there and while i try everything to get him to eat it. Does anyone know what I should do?

It looks like he has some agressive tankmates. Are any of them bothering him? You may also want to try some krill, clam, or squid.

also you can wave it around on a squere in front of him to try to get him to eat

try some ghost shrimp/glass shrimp (what ever you want to call them.) get them at your lfs (live) take em home. take the shrimp and brake his tail enough that he cant swim but still flop his tail (so he can get the sharks attention). put them right in front of him about an inch or two away. feed 1 or 2 or untill he quits searching. try to keep the tank mates busy while your doing this, so they dont steal the food. this worked well for me i hope it helps you. good luck robby

no his tankmates dont mess with him at all, the only problem i have is when i leave a fish in for the shark the trigger goes and hides it.

Try chopped clams and mysis shrimp, a friend of mine has had success with those. hth

I have a Bamboo Shark as well, hatched on fathers day. I read previously post and they suggested that you should wait a couple of weeks before trying to feed your shark. When you descide to feed him, I used a straw with a slit on one end and put an inch long piece of squid on the straw utilizing the slit side. Wave the squid in front of the shark, when approaching him be easy not to spook him. They say ya want to wait a few week is because the shark feeds off the yoke for about that long, and may not be hungry right away, so be patient... "Good Luck"

How big do these sharks get? What is the smallest tank you would keep one in and how much do they cost?

about a 180 gal tank

I'am not pro in the shark area, Iam learning as I go along also but, an egg can cost any where from $40 dollars on up. Depending where ya get the egg from. If you get the shark already hatched, its normally a little more. Its been said a tank of 180 gal. or more is suggestable. I have mine in a 155 gal. bow front. They can get 3-4 feet in size. In the aggressive area, there are people there than can help ya .
