It's not really about WHAT you need...it's about how BIG you need it.
As a start, once you decide what size pond/tank you want to keep, double the skimmer. So, if you're keeping a 400gal. tank, look into skimmers that are rated for 800gal. tanks.
Refugiums, IMO, help greatly and are almost a must. The bigger the better.
It's mainly about doing common and routine maintenance....water changes, filter changes, etc.

speaking about refugiums, what are more effiecent, hang on refugiums or sump refugiums? Dont think i will be getting a sump/refugium for x-mas but with x-mas money from relatives i will be able to get one. Sorry, not trying to hijack your thread.

hey jr I think its cool that you have a great interest in keeping sharks and for your age you seam to be thinking of trying to do it right.very smart thinking ahead this is a link to very good website that can help you with just about everything you need to know about the do's and the don'ts of keeping sharks and other marine species.there is alot to read here ,but you can learn alot from the experts so when you do get the tank of your dreams you will know what to expect. and what not to do {link violation} keep up the research you will make a great shark keeper if you do.maybe even a marine biologist
