LOL! :D I WISH it was my tank...but it did used to be my job. A very very very rewarding and cool part of my old job. That is approx 200,000g shark tank with a train that goes through a tunnel so people can see them.
Now I am in a different kind of tank :( an office.

Ophuria, did you work at the Aquarium? The Resteraunt/amusement park? I go there all the time when I go visit my little brother there. That is the only one I can think of that has a train.

Yup, that's the same tank :D I kinda miss it every day, and yet don't miss it at all. Strange.
But I am surprised others don't have some shark pictures? Do those "aggressive" folks not get over to this forum? :D

ophiura is that armor your wearing. ohh my.. After getting over being nervious, if I had that job I would work alot of over time. :D
Desk jobs are hard especially when you go from a real physicaly demanding type job to sitting. I bet it took alot of getting used to.

For liability reasons, we had to wear a chainmail shark suit in the tank over our wetsuit. I would without hesitation go in without one. I never felt threatened, and like being with the piranha, you had to pay more attention to confusing or frightening the animals rather than worry about them attacking you. Only once, when getting over the tunnel that runs through the middle, did I feel I was at risk - because I don't think either of us (me or shark) saw each other coming. But it was great, and we would typically spend some extra time looking for teeth. I even have some here on my desk now. The irony is that with those sand tigers, their teeth are so narrow and sharp they would still get through some of the chainmail, IMO not IME thankully :D
And the transition to a desk job was very difficult (including added weight). But there were several issues there that made the "work" very enjoyable but the "job" miserable. I guess that is true of every job.

The pay (and other issues concerning pay) was, frankly, insulting. I took a pay cut from working at an LFS! Obviously, there were some perks :D (such as just staying underwater where no one could contact you), but the pay was a major reason I left.

Very cool Ophiura,
I'm a diver too, and a job like that just looks like it would be too cool to be true!! I just got my AOW, and in 2 weeks will be going for Rescue Diver...not that much to brag about...just a side note.
Another side note...you wouldn't catch me fraturnizing with sharks!!!! :D

Congrats, Lisa, on your recent certs :D I must admit most of my diving is in situations like the above - tanks of various sorts - which should be a different cert all together. It requires a lot of thinking things through as you can end up in interesting situations. Kind of wreck diving, kind of cave diving...but interestingly enough I would consider doing either of those.

I've done a bit of wreck diving on vacation in Aruba, but most of my experience is in the cold, dark waters of 'sconsin, small lakes, quarries, etc. It's funny, but when I get into the ocean, the biggest fear I have to overcome is descending in the clarity (acrophobia), but that's turned out to be my FAVORITE part...very fun!!
Lisa :happyfish ps...no sharks for me :D
