Shark Size

Well - the smallest species of shark, available to the public is the Marbled Catshark (A. macleayi) - which grows up to 24" .
The 2nd smallest is the Coral Catshark (A. marmoratus) grows up to 27".
While Scott Michael's book - Aquarium Sharks & Rays
- suggests the absolute minimum size tank for a Marbled Catshark is 70 gallons. In this case a 70 gallon wide - which is 48" long x 24" wide x 13" deep. Still all of Scott's estimates are on the low side.
Personally I would recommend the following as minimums - a 110 wide (60" long x 24" wide x 17" deep) or 125 wide (72" x 24" x 17") for a Marbled Cat.
For the Coral Cat - a custom 140 (60" x 30" x 18") or a custom 170 wide (72" x 30" x 18").

in my opinion if anyone has to ask this question normally their tank is not big enough no offense to anyone.

Personal - if I were to use a tank that size for a shark - it would be for a pupping tank only. If you get a recently hatched shark(up to 2 months old), then that should be okay for up to a year only. The shark should still be under 18" before moving it to it's final adult home.
To quote - Scott Michael here "When it comes to choosing a tank for a shark - bigger is not only better, it is imperative".
