Just finished watching this movie. Nothing like a great John Wayne western. They don't make em like this anymore. The movie or the Actor.

Years ago my brother was delivering some office furniture to Wayne's house in Newport Beach and got to meet..... Jimmy Stewart. Said he was a really nice guy. Not sure where Wayne was.

Speaking of which. Can anyone name the westerns that John Wayne dies in? The Shootist is one. The Cowboy's is the other. I think there is one more but I can't remember it.

I can only think of one other movie he dies in, Sands of Iwo Jima
Oh yeah I forgot about the Alamo. My Dad's cousin was an extra in that movie. He comes up to John Wayne (Davey Crockett) and says "The West Wall" and then dies.

When my Mom was a young girl; she, her three sisters and her parents were on their boat anchored at Catalina Island. Of course the kids were making noise and from another boat my grandfather heard, "Shut up those G-d d-m- kids". My Grandfather shouted over apologies. All of the sudden John Wayne comes up onto his deck offering his apologies; he didn't mean my mom and her sisters, he meant his own kids.
They all had drinks later while the kids played.

Agreed, It had to be hard to play, knowing he was dying in a simialr way.
"Big Jake" and "True Grit" are my other favorites.
OK, let's debate:
John Wayne vs Chuck Norris.

Chuckie couldn't have gotten close enough to take a shot. Wayne would have drawn and fired so fast Norris would have died before he was born
