shells from the ocean....

can i put a shell i got from the ocean in to my salt water tank??? if like i let it sit in a cup of the water from my tank 4 a while???

Don't see why not, just make sure that you rinse it good, maybe even in tap water to make sure there is nothing hiding in it, like flatworms the like to go into shells.

I live on the Gulf of Mexico, and every so often collect shells. A couple have made their way into the tank. One day I was collecting shells and I stuck my hand into my pocket and got bit by a hermit from a previous shell! So, yea, if their fresh off the beach, you may want to not only wash them off, but observe them in water for some days to see if anything comes out.

Ive found some schells attached to a rock in the ocean in California ,there in my agressive tank for 3 yrs. no problems.
