Just got a yellow tang on the weekend, and he is very happy and healthy (in appearance), but he swims around and "flicks" his dorsal fin a fair bit. Is this common or could his fin have be hurt/injured. As a precaution have have put liquid vitamins in his Emerald Entree.
Any thoughts?

Yeah I think thats pretty normal for yellow tangs. Mine did the same thing and it was fine. How big is your tank? Just curiuos.

He should be fine like the post above mentioned. However I will add this..
Keep an eye out just incase there could be a problem. If his diet is so/so - make it better than what it is. Offer fresh greens if available, nori, flake, and vitamins. This will keep any fish healthy and happy.
In turn, it will strengthen their immune systems to further help with anything they have currently or could get in the future!
Have fun!

In a 150g you could add another tang no problem, one that I would reccommend is the powder blue, they are really pretty and don't get too big, but you can get whatever kind of tang you want to just make sure you have lots of LR for them to swim though because they like caves and stuff like that in the LR. Like the above post mentioned feed the tang lots of greens like lettuce, seaweed, ect. and also to keep it healthy feed him garlic soaked foods or vitamin soaked food to help him to keep his immune sytem good. Anyway I was just asking what size your tank was becuase a lot of people put tangs in too small of aquariums, anyway my tank is a 26 gallon.

CARRIE, I was actually wondering about YOUR yellow tang and YOUR tank? Do you have any other tangs or will your yellow not accept any additions.(was what I was asking)
Actually I do Have a Powder Blue <img src="graemlins//angel.gif" border="0" alt="[angel]" /> They get along well. And I am giving them Flakes, pellets, brineshrimp, chopped shrimp, Emerald Entree and romaine lettuce and spinach on a feeding clip.Trying to get ahold of that garlic.
I guess I have taken all the precautions I can.
He's a little timid sometimes, would it have anything to do with that? A fish with a nerve problem
:p that seems odd!! LOL

I used to have a 6 ft long 84g with a yellow tang. I never added any other tangs so he was king of the tank. But I lost all my fish due to an ich break out even though I tried to treat it, so I just got a smaller tank thinking it would be easier, now I just have 2 false percula clownfish and a scooter blenny. My tang was really timid too, all you have to do is look at him the wrong way and he went and hid, lol.
