Should I get a different filter???

Currently I have a 55gal aquarium and I am running an emperor 400 bio wheel filter. From what I hear these are not very good filters for sw setups. And from my experience they don't seem to clean debris from the water very well. Everything (fish poop) seems to settle to the bottom of the tank. Does anyone have any recommendations for a better filter for my tank??
Other equip includes: Prizm skimmer, maxijet 400&1200 power heads (1 each), Visi-Therm 200 Watt Heater, 50+lbs live rock.
Also where would the best places for my power heads be for maximum circulation? Currently I have the 1200 at the top left center of the tank and the 400 at the bottom right back (blowing behind my LR) but I still seem to have a lot of "dead" spots.
Live stock includes: 2 Ocellaris clowns, 1 3 srtipe damsel, 1 blue devil damsel, 1 neon dottyback, 2 hermit crabs (1 large and 1 small), and 9 snails.

I have almost the same exact setup as yours only I have corals and anem's in my tank and less fish. I have a little more live rock and all I can say is that my tank parameters are always perfect. I have even been told that I do not need the bio wheel since I am more of a "reef" setup and I could toss the whole filter system as I have the live rock and a skimmer.
I also have this filter on my other 2 tanks and really, I think it is great! Make sure that you clean off the filter intake and take a look at your filter and change once a month or every 6 weeks. I also have the eheim efestrate in the grey bio holders and this seems to have worked very well. I have never had a problem with amon, nitrite or nitrate.
As for the powerheads I also have 2 and one is a rio that revolves and gets good circulation - all I know is that my fish love to swim in the current and my anem's do not move around anymore so they must like it :)
Good luck!
