Here's the deal. I am a very dis-organized person, but about 2 months ago, I broke down and got a planner. It has literally saved my professional life, and now I can accurately manage a very complex schedule. The problem - I have chicken scratch for handwriting and I rarely take out my planner unless I'm at my desk.... I usually wait and update my planner once a day. Because I reference it, I'm able to generally remember when I have something to do. Plus, my planner doesn't remind me of anything.
Now, I have a blackberry, and I see absolutely no point in putting any scheduling on the little 2-inch screen. In the month view, there's no point - all I see are dots on the days. To zoom in to week view, I still can't see much of anything. In Day view, I have to scroll up and down to see my entire day.
With an iPad, I get a 10-inch screen that lets me see all my calendar notes, and in all three views. I think there's even a fourth view option on the iPad. If I use the iPad regularly, I can set it to remind me of my scheduling.
Plus, I ALWAYS have my laptop either open or nearby. BUT I use my laptop primarily for web browsing, modifying word doc's, and email, All of which the iPad was designed specifically for. With these features paired with an excellent scheduling system, I may not need to take my laptop everywhere anymore.
Web, email, word processing, excellent calendar, smaller mobile size, 10 hour battery life, instant on/off. I can see it seamlessly working into my life and I'd take it everywhere. I'd still use my laptop for more intensive stuff like building websites or making videos, but this would be my day-to-day companion.
Not to mention all the frills of owning an apple product - countless apps that seem to have been designed for every need/want in life, e-books, solid warranty, multi-touch experience, thin and sturdy design.
Now, I've thought about getting an iPhone, but I've had one before and I'm just not a fan of AT&T's service. Plus, I needed to charge the iPhone every day, and that was with minimal use. I would much rather have a simple phone I can charge once every few days. Plus, the calendar, web, email, and word processing don't work as well on a 3.5 inch screen.
SO, having said all that, should I get one? I'm not trying to sell you an apple product or start a mac vs. PC war, but just asking if you think it's worth the $500. Yes? No? Is HP's Slate better? Why?
