I was just thinkig about building an aquarium but wasnt quite sure if i should try to attempt this crazy idea,but i know its been done,just dont know where to start,and if im just better off buying the aquarium,caus im going to attempt to build a 400g.does anybody out there know anything about building aquariums?I know there are books but havent found one yet,thought id ask all of you out there first!Thanks. AS

A month or so ago there was a discussion on building large tanks partially from plywood. I would do a search in all forums under the word "plywood" if your interested.

for such a large tank, I think I would leave it to the pros. 400 gal. tank translates to 3200#s of just water weight. That's alot of pressure on the seams, especially for a first time tank.

yeh i would like to build one too , be carfull , i do know youll need 1" thick glass for that size , my local fish store built one 6oo gal , was full of water for testing when it cracked and flooded the store :eek:

I just priced out glass for a 125 gal. tank and it ended up to be $256.00 just for the glass. then you have to put the whole thing together and hope it doesnt leak. i called my LFS and they sell for $320.personally id buy one just gor the reassurance its built professionaly.
