I just dont know what to do. I really like the look of those foam walls, I have one side done for my 54 gal. I havent put the epoxy or sand on it yet, but I dont want to spend the extra money if I scrap this project.
I am just not sure how safe this is for my horses. I would hate for something to not be right and have something leach into my seahorse tank.
Here are a few pictures.
What do you think -- Is this safe

What is the foam made out of? That is what I would check...make sure it's not toxic...they are very nice BTW...I can only imagine how they will look after covered with coraline and stuff.

I would be too...our seahorses seem to be very delicate....Like I said before...just check what each item on the wall is made of...I can't wait to see it done

The only experience I have with Great Stuff is when I use it to hold some rocks in place on my outdoor ponds and when I need to plug up some gaps in the waterfalls. What worries me a little about using it in a saltwater tank is that the stuff doesn't last forever when wet..... I've found it starts to deteriorate after a couple of years and fall apart and it's a real b/tch to get off to re-do it.
I don't blame you for being paranid - I would be too. But if that's what others have used I can understand why you got this far. Tough call - to keep going or scrap the idea. Wish I could help but I really don't know what I'd do.

Maybe soak/cure it for a bit in hypersalinity (1.035+ sg), that way if anything were to leach, it would do it then?

I really like AquaKnight's idea here. But not hyper salinity. My concern is that the foam may retain to much of the salt.

ok after talking with some other people, i have finished my walls. I switched to the black for for the other side, and coated all the foam with expoxy resin and sand.
