Should I put some rock on the sand bed?

Is my rock formation too high? I was thinking of putting some of the rock down onto the sand so there is more room for corals and stuff to grow, or can they grow at an angle?
I cant wait to get some stuff in here to start hiding this awful looking equipment. I think making a tall sump and putting that HOB skimmer below would look so much better after I get a background

spray paint the back either black or blue, thats probably the best background you can get for saltwater
and your rock is just fine, no need to change it

Red I personally love a lot of LR with its color, bio filtration diversity, and platform for critters and ascetics. I also think fish like a lot of rockwork with caves and cranny’s to explore. The only down side is displacement, more rock less water. And dilution is our best friend and we loose some with all the rock

You can also get some film like materials at the LFS, black or blue in color to put on the back to hide the equipment. Also having the back covered helps to enhance the color in the tank.
I too think your rockwork is just fine.

It is hard to tell depth in the pic but a trick I like is to put the rocks in a semi-circle especially in small tanks. It gives you a nice fell of depth in your tank and makes it less one dimensional

If you're going for height, just make sure its stable.
Trust me, crushing a fish in a rockslide isn't fun. Not to mention its a good way to crack your tank.

I like the blue or dk. blue background myself. It really makes the colors pop!
I think you can go even higher. I like the semi-circle and the steps as well. But it is whatever you prefer and how your rock work locks together.

Sorry I posted the wrong picture. Those red circles are the corals I picked up for my sister in law for her tank. Lol...

Do not spray paint it! Paint the back with latex based roll on paint it will take afew coats be sure to tape it off and this way if you change your mind the latex paint will stick, but will also peel off if you change your mind later down the road.

I personally like this idea best. If you have an easy access to the back of your tank. You can cut a number of different shades of blue, black and even green film material easily purchased at a craft store
