Either today or tomorrow i am going to pick up my second leopard wrasse. Normally i QT all fish. About 3 weeks ago i bought a leopard wrasse and drip acclimated him to my QT for about 3 hours knowing that they are very sensitive fish. The fish seemed very stressed out even though i did it very slow and my parameters were "perfect." This time I think that I'm going to just put him into the main tank since they like to burry themselves in the sand and I think it has a better chance of making it.
Am i right by doing this or should I take another attempt at QTing this difficult fish. It has been at the store for 1 day and was acclimated there over night with 2 hippo tangs in the bucket with it. There is about .10-.15 level of copper in the lfs system.
i think it was murph that told me not to and to just put it in my system but im looking for some other opinions. thanks

put it in the QT tank with some sand in a shallow but wide surface area tupperware of sand. also provide a large chunk of LR that will have pods on it. keep an eye on it for a month. never assume - you can risk your whole fish population.

i did this last time with the tupperware container. i dont htink he was able to get into it because the way they get into the sand is they kinda dive into it and i dont htink he was able to find his way into the container. that rules that idea out kinda.

How big of a tank do you have, and how old? Does yours eat anything but live foods? They are very picky eaters. Unless you have a really big tank with lots of pods, I would hesitate adding two leopard wrasses.

yea thats true as well. one per tank is the general rule, actually you can run into aggression among the two leopards as well. do you have another rock picker like a mandarin? this would compete with it as well.
as for the tupperware, i believe you need a very wide one, that takes up like 1/3 of the tank bottom.

i dont have any. the one i had, died the first night after putting him in qt.
i have a 90g with 30g sump/fuge. lots of pods, worms, and other critters. i know about the requirments of the fish, what i am unsure of is if i should risk loosing another on by qting it. i have prob 100+ pounds of rock.

I would see if the LFS will hold him for a month and see how he does. They are a very difficult species to keep and Im sure a big proportion of the problems arise from their shipping. It would seem to me that a fish leaves one tank in a bag then goes into another tank at your LFS then a day or two later leaves the LFS in a bag and goes to your QT. Sounds like a lot of travel time and stress. If they are unwilling maybe you should consider a hardier species,I know they are really cool looking but so are radiants,tamarins,coris,flasher..all of which seem to ship a little better though they are all quite sensitive. Whichever way you go make sure you have your top covered with at least egg crate because these fish WILL jump out,its not if but when, good luck.

I would just put it in there i dont even acclimate fish at all and havent for 2 years and never had a problem i have 3 leopard wrasse in my tank.... i have seen where they do better in groups of 3 or more they are a very nonaggresive fish....... i think QT is overrated and causes more stress on the fish i have some delicate fish such as a powder blue and regal tans and copperband butterfly i put them all right in my tank no QT no acclimation but i guess its up to you
