Should I turn my skimmer off?

I'm adding coral vital to my tank to initiate coralline algae growth. There's no inhabbitants should I turn the skimmer off or leave it on? I usually run it 24/7.

WHEN ADDING CORAL VITAL TO MY WATER SHOULD I TURN MY SKIMMER OFF? Also, since I have no fish or inverts just l/s and l/r could I added as much of the coral vital I want rather than the recommended dosage of 1 teaspoon per 100 gal.?
