Should I Use Tap Water?

Hello, I just bought a 12g JBJ Nano. I'm getting LR in tomorrow. Should I cure the rocks with salt mixed with tap water then later use RO water? The store is pretty far from me.

Do not use tap water, you will regret it. I did this at the beginning and had nothing but problems. If you cannot get RO water I boil my water and then let it sit a day before using it in my tank. I also put my salt into this water with an airstone and heater and make sure the salinity its the same as what is in your tank.
I do this everytime I need to do a water change and my tank has been going for the past
1 1/2 years.
Good luck.... :joy:

to be honest i have been using tap water but it runs thru a filter on the faucet( makes better drinking water) and have had no probs. it really depends on how good your tap water is. i have a 2.5 nano reef a 25 gallon fish and invert tank and a new 30 gallon aggr. tank

how long have you had your tanks up and running... also what is your water purifier doing to the water?
i'm sorry but if you continue to use tap water with no form of purification you are bound to crash a system

the 25 has been running for 3 years and always has used tap for water changes, the 2.5 has been running for 3 or so months that water i used from the 25, the 30 is 2 weeks old almost but i used some already cycled water from a 3000 gallon system a buddy of mine has in the pet store he owns, i should clarify i use tap for water changes, and if its safe enough to drink its good enough for most fish, but if you have finicky fish i would use RO water
the filter purifies the water , takes out the hard stuff

Glad everything is working for you ludachris821... :)
I love your lionfish, is he in your 30 gal? Is it the dwarf type? The lions are just so neat looking.
Good luck.... :cheer:

I would recommend filtering your water. If you are hooked up to city water they add florides and other chemicals to make your water better for you. LOL... If you have a well you are adding large loads of metals to your water. Also there is a small amount of copper that leaches into your water lines.
Good luck,

I also use tap water for all my tanks but only for top off. My tanks are healthy, the corals and fish are all doing great and I dont have any algea problems at all. I use ocean water from the fish store for water changes though.
