what exactly are show tanks??dont want to sound stupid,but i had to ask because i have read so much about them--thnks

reef safe is referance to a fish who will not pick on inverts in general. Inverts include corals, crabs, shrimp, starfish, snails, etc. What kind of fish are you looking at?

curious about what show tank means--is that reef safe by ur explanation--i love tangs but very new and apparently my tank is too small as it is only a 46 gallon,should have bought bigger but my lfs said it would be fine

sorry, i dont know what the heck i was doing, i guess i thought i was replying to a diff post. sorry. A show tank is just that. It is used to show off spectacular specimens of fish or corals, etc. You LFS probably has a tnak that they dont sell stuff out of. THis would be their show tank. thats all

if a fish is said to be reef safe, it means that either it can or will eat inverts, which, depending on the fish, may include shrimp crabs, corals , anemones, or feather dusters, any and all inverts can apply depending on the fish in question

jon, this is the 3d time in 2 days, that i have had this problem, and judging from your response, it seems tha tyou have too,
SAMMY OR ANY MODERATOR, can we please check into this??, is this maybe what happened the other night between you and deita?? it just seems odd that i answer a q about reef safe,and it winds up in a show tank post, and then someone else does too, at the same time, ODD?!

yeah i totally thought i was answering another members question on what reef safe meant, but then all of a sudden it popped up in a show tank topic and i had to cover my arse right quick. That was like totally weird though, i didnt know if it was me or the comp, but now that it happened to you too fshhub, im questioning the server or somethign else. That was really weird!

well im originally from pueblo, but am at college in greeley. The lfs's up here really suck in my opinion. Ft. Collins has a good one called Denizen of the Deep and it is pretty awesome. When i am in Devner i usually stop at Reef Gallery, cause i know the owners pretty well, but ever since it changed owners, it has kinda went downhill. What about you? I am always looking for new places to visit. I used to love Aquaria on Colo blvd, but they went bankrupt a couple years ago. Any suggestions????

most of the time when ive heard the term "show tank" it was a tall and narrow tank rather than a short and deep tank. it shows of the fish better but a breeder wide and deep is better for fish because it has more sq inches of surface area for territories and oxygen exchaNGE
