Shrinking PICs REEF PIC Example

I am sure this is in the archives but I can't get the search to work right now. Is there a better way to shrink PICs to 500X500 (to fit this site) than to take them on 480X680 and then use the "attributes" and "sketches" to shrink them? It seems to smoosh the PICs. See below? 20 G and 92 corner
Any help would be great! Would be great if the site had an auto converter?

Thats weird. Always works for me. Upload the image to Irfan, then go to Image resize/resample, where it says set new size only change the width to 500 pixels. The height will automatically set. Save it as a .jpg and then upload it to the post.

I use the image resizer from Microsoft, and it's available for free from their site. The best part is it can resize multiple pictures simultaneously.
