I just added a yellow tang to my reef tank. First tank after my fight with ick (the ick won ). Anyway, I let my tank sit for about a month to let the ick cycle out of my tank. Now back to the tang. Is it unusaul for a fish to hid behind the rocks at first? Will he tend to come out more later, or should I rearange the rocks so that he has to stay out front? Let me know. Thanks.

He is just getting used to his new surroundings. He will come out when he is ready.

He will stay where he feels comfortable but when he is ok with his eviroment he will come out dont worry, about the rock dont rearrange it if you force him to the front it will only stress him if its not comfortable with it. Bill

i will usually take about a week before he is use to your tank but he will come out sooner or later.

I have a yellow and a purple and they both took at least 3 days to get used to being in my tank. Now they are out all of the time!

Give him time. He's probably wondering where the heck he is. Once he gets used to it and realizes its his new home he will come out more and more.
