im getting a 120 next week. 48"x24"x24". are dual 400w mh pendants too much? should i tone it down to dual 250's with 2- 110 vho actinics? thats 720total watts. i want clams, and sps (eventually). im not gonna set the tank up until i can do it right. which means i probably wont set it up for like 6-8 months. whattya think?

400's are fine if you have the means to cool it. if they are not going in a canopy then your should be ok on heat with just a fan.
with that said the 250's should also work well.
you NEED 250's IMO. it will be nice to have the 400's. I stated with 250's and then went to 400's and love it

did you see a huge improvement from going to the 400s after the 250s? i just dont want to have to upgrade my lights after seeing a new coral that i want. i just want to be able to keep anything out there and not have to worry about it.
as for the heat issues, i was looking on the auction site, and they have a lot of retro kits for pretty cheap. so i was gonna build a canopy for overtop of the tank and probably put 5-6 small cooling fans in it.
im gonna do this tank right the first time and dont want to do things twice.
