I bought a 14” Green Carpet on 12/4 and when I transferred it to a temporary home I noticed a few small pieces of flesh came out of the bag. It ate 2 krill immediately so I assumed it was going to do okay. It’s been downhill from there. Bottom line it’s lost 50% of it’s body mass and looks terrible.
I called my LFS guru (and I’m not being facetious, he’s always been extremely knowledgeable and helpful and, by the way NOT where I got the anemone). He said that frequently anemones are allowed to eat just before shipping and this is a major source of problems because large ammonia production in a shipping bag will fatally burn the animal. He suggested I chuck it immediately because it’s probably a lost cause. This thread concerns his use of the word probably. Does anyone out there think it worth my time to scoop it and ten gallons of it’s water and put it in a holding tank and try to rescue it. Bear in mind the potential water problems inherent in a large critter in a ten ( I’d put it in one of my 20s but they’re sort of earmarked for some Tangs I just bought from SWF).
If someone thinks I’d have a shot if I used a 20 I suppose I could ask SWF to delay shipping my order…I don’t really want to get another 20 because that’d give me 6 QTs and enough is enough!
