Sick Damsel

I got my husband an aq for xmas. The pet store said it would help it to cycle if we put a couple of black damsels in. Two weeks ago one of them fell ill. He clung to the bubble bar and panted like crazy. By morning he was dead. Now our other one has frayed fins and his face around his eyes is kind of pale. He eats and swims around like nothing is wrong. We added a bicolor angel. They seem to get along but I am not sure if the angel is beating the damsel up during the night. The damsel had a little bit of a fin problem before the angel moved in but not nearly this bad. Another factor, When we got the two damsels, the store said after we got the tank going, we could bring them back if we didn't want them. I don't know how many homes those little black fish have had??? Do we have a sick fish or one that is getting picked on. Can anyone help????

Can you post more information like tank size and levels such as ammonia, specific gravity, pH, nitrites, temperature etc.? There is a good chance that this is only a cycle issue. 3 fish in a tank that young may be too much.
Most fish tend to sleep at night so aggression is not likely if you are not seeing it during the day.
