Sick Firefish??

I have a Firefish that has been acting a bit sluggish the last couple of days. Last night I saw some spots that I felt were ich. I immediately put him in a Qt tank that I have had set up for this purpose. This morining there are no spots, but he does seem a little timid (could be new environment). He ate this morining and I will of course observe him for any changes.
I can't do a hypo treatment (no refractometer) and am reluctant to medicate without syptoms.
What do you think?

If you have a glass hydrometer, you can do the hypo. But, for the moment, lets just wait and see.
Any new fish in the tank resently??

No, I haven't added a thing in about a month.
Tonight, he is covered in spots, I guess I'll start treatments tomorrow.
