i am currently having a problem iwth my roayl gramma and was wondering if anyone might be able to tell me what's wrong with him.
first, i should tell you i have a 55 gal tank w 45 lbs of LR (live rock), 5 turbos, 1 naso, 1 domino, and 1 sleeper goby (sand sifter), and the gramma. the tank is approx 10 weeks old. the damsel has been in since the beginning to cycle the tank and although he can be a pest he does not seem to be hurting any of the other fish in the tank. the salinity is 1.021-1.022. the temp is 78-80, although it had recently dropped to 76 during a power outage in the area. the filtration is fine, nitrates are fine, etc.
over the past few days i noticed that the gramma, who was never a very active fish anyway, has found a nook in the rock and pretty much is in there all the time. he may peek out on occasion but not for long. he does not eat much anymore although he really didn't eat much at all to begin with (other fish possibly were scaring him). this morning i noticed him in his nook and it seems as if he is having difficulty breathing because he opens his mouth up wide to gasp. i also noticed that he dispelled something white this morning. this has never happened before. i don't know what is wrong,...could it be chilondella? how can i treat this? unfortunately i don't have any hospital tank and there is no room in my house to even set one up. can i treat this in the tank with the other fish? any info you can give me would be a big help! Thanks
