Sick Foxface!!!

Hi All,
I need some help. I have a sick foxface. He has quit eating and has some fin deterionation.
Here's the story:
Thursday I did my normal water change. (About 10 gal on a 70 gl fowcc.) I also cleaned some of the diatoms off the glass. Apperently I bumped the heater control while doing this. When I got home from work Friday, the temp was 84 and the foxface was sick. My normal tank temp was about 80, on LFS'S advice. I have since put it back to 77. Anyway, I did another larger water change Sat. thinking that some how I might have contaminated the water.(about 20 gal). Sunday morning foxface still no better and still not eating. So I decided to move him to Hosp. tank. I went to the LFS to get Maracyn2, but all they had was just maracyn. They said that would work to. I asked about the double dose the first time as I have read that here many times. So I did this. Now my water is VERY yellow, and I'm worried. Also the directions say it will dissolve fast, but it's been in there for about 5 hours and still isn't dissolved all the way.
I guess I just want to know if I'm doing the right thing. I've had him for about 9 mo. and he's one of my favs.
Also, all levels are zero except 'trates which are about 40. No other fish in tank sick. No new additives lately. Tank has been set up for over a year.
Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated!!! I DON'T WANT TO LOSE MY FISH!!! :(

Terry,
He was sick before I lowered the temp. Would a 4 degree rise cause the thermal stress also? I guess I should have lowered the temp more gradually. So maybe he doesn't need meds anyway? Or do I continue to treat. He is acting alot better today, moving and even ate a small amount. His fins look bad still though. I have some Melafix, would that be better to treat with?
I will wait for your response before I do anything else. THANKS FOR THE HELP!!!

I would definately agree with Terry,,,Maybe he is now just starting to re-adjust to the temp..I agree...Melafix is WONDERFUL for Fin repair...Just make sure you turn off your skimmer if you have one or there will be bubble everywhere...
I hope he gets better...I get SO sad when and if mine get sick..
Good Luck with him

Water heats up slowly from then sun and cools off slowly also. The heater being bumped might make the temp rise pretty quick but the temp falling 8 degrees or so should take a while and I wouldnt think that would stress a fish out much. Kinda like taking it from a LFS tank at 77 and putting it into yours at 82. Thats a big jump in the matter of a few hours and a tank wont heat up or cool off that fast unless you keep it in a freezer. :)
