sick puffer

My pork puffer is ill. It looks like white spots, slime all over him. Earlier today he was fine. It does not look as bubbly as ICH, but i can not rule that out. The last time my tang got ich, I treated with copper in a 10 gal with no success. Water is okay, nitrate 15. Rest of tank consit of N iger, spotted puffer, and SFE and LR. I feed the fish and the puffer ate, however the SFE did not come out, this is a first. The tank has been running for about 4-5 months, this is the first issue I have had with them.
SHould I try green ex, or something else, I have read on hypo, I am not sure if the 10 gal will work for that.
Any and all opinions are helpful.

Please do not put greenx in your tank, or use it. It is a waste of time. You need to bite the bullet and treat all your fish using hyposalinity. See the post on hyposalinity in the FAQ Thread at the top of this forum.
Is all you have is LR and no corals? What about inverts? I am thinking you can find a temporary home for the LR in an aerated rubbermaid and do the hyposalinity on your display with all fish in the display.
What type setup do you. Please look at the post I reference above.

I have a couple snails and crabs, but I could catch them and put them in the rubber maid container also.
Thanks

Yes, just make sure you have good circulation in the rubbermaid and continue doing water changes in there as well. Then hypo your tank. Do you have a refractometer? If you don't, try and get one. Refracts should be used for all purposes pertaining to measuring salinity, and not just hypo. You would not believe how inaccurate that some of the other instruments are.

Yes, fish with bones are safe, non-boney fish such as sharks and rays, are not.
