Just bought a spiny Boxfish from the LFS and it puffs up 4 or 5 times a day. Its been a week so far, and he seems ok and eats as much as i feed him haha. I am new to the hobby and I am pretty anal about water conditions. Not sure if its normal and he is still getting used to the new water or if something is up. Also, in my specs below, Yes it does say 35 gal tank but it is only temporoary until i can get a bigger tank. PLEASE HELP!!! thanks.
35 gal hex
salinity - 1.024
amm - 0
nitrite - 0
nitrate - .02 or so
PH - 8.4
false percula clownfish
yellow watchman goby
camel shrimp
snails
crabs

Puffing up 4 or 5 times a day is excessive high. Frequent inflation is usually caused by some sort of irritant or stressor. I don't think either the goby or clown would be harassing the puffer, so that might hint towards disease possibly. Given that Spiny Burrfish (not a boxfish, technically, a puffer) tend to be extremely disease-prone, I certainly would be keeping a sharp eye on the tank. The sort of easy thing with Burrfish, is that their large eyes and huge fins makes it easy to spot disease, if there is any.

Set up the tank about 3 months ago. It cycled in about 2 weeks, then I added the clown. The salinity, when I put him in, was 1.026 and i just dropped it down to 1.024. Could that be it?? His fins look good, but his eyes have a glazed over hazy blue tint to them. I'm not sure if the eye thing is ok or not, i've seen a few puffers and they all seem to have this kind of glazed tint. He also has a little bump under his mouth like its a zit or something. What else should I check for?

As a point of reference, here's mine,

How much more cloudy is his eyes? Is there any way you can get a picture up? The slight change in salinity is likely a non-factor. That zit-thing is probably just a spike, but would be interested to see it. Look for small white spots on the fins.

How big is this fish? When did you get him? And, if obtained recently, was he out of water at all during the capture at the LFS and/or the acclimation in to your tank?
