My corner 45 gallon QT tank sprung a leak last night...very small pissing from a seam... I went and got aquarium safe DAP silicone from Home Depot.. Im going to scrape off as much silicone as I can from ALL seams and re do with this type of silicone... Any suggestions appreciated... I looked at Ge 1 BUT IT SEEMS TO HAVE mildew inhibiitors now....I only have a small leak so not really sure if I need to use rtv 108 or 103 or just re-seal the seams with silicone..Help if you can...

The stuff you got is rtv silicone so you're all good there.
Strait razor blades, and a little rubbing alcohol is what I used to re-seal my 120g. Even used some of the same stuff that you picked up.
Get out what you can first with the razor, avoid slicing into the joints between the panes of glass themselves. Then rub the areas with alcohol, scrape, alcohol, scrape until you can't see any traces of the old stuff anymore accept between the glass. Let it dry really well (over night if possible) then do what you gotta do.

The stuff I got is NOT rtv...home depot had DAP rtv right next to the stuff I bought but it did not say aquarium safe...so I just got the other stuff. I belivee the RTV stuff is more for of a adhesisve and for tinsile strsngeth and not really for leaks.. correct me if I am wrong..

Technically speaking it falls within that rtv (room temperature vulcanizing) family since it contains acetic acids (vinegar smell). It is an adhesive silicone and not just a sealant more specifically created for glass to glass applications.

OK.. I am trying to fill a small leak in a seam for a glass to glass applicatation.. a seam has sprung a leak..So you are saying that the rtv is a adhesive AND a sealant ???Then why would anybody use just a silicone and NOT an adhesive silicone??

All silicons have some measure of adhesive qualities to them. Some more than others for different reasons. You don't necessarily need something that is capable of holding an aquarium together in order to weather proof a window or door.

Thank you for the input. I will reseal with what I have and post the results... I personaly think that any 100 percent silicone will do the job...as long as it doesnt have mildew inhibitors or other additives in it....

Yep, stay away from the kitchen and bath stuff. Besides, anything that is 100% silicone and has acetoxy in it is already mold resistant to begin with.

Scraped out the majority of the silicone in the seam that was leaking and then decided to go ahead and do it for ALL the seams... Found a tag saying the tanks manufacture was July 1998. So 15 years old, Not sure if thats old or young as far as a tank goes,or as far as silicone is concerned..
So I resealed the seams the other day,let it cure 36 hours, filled with water to test it...seems to be fine. Will let it sit a few days before I drain in and fill with saltwater.. I must say that my silicone application skills need improvement..looks ok,but its hard to get a smooth looking seam..I used tape for the edges, but the smoothing part sucked...I think I messed with it one to many times, but its holding. Got me thinking about the seams on my 130....Im not really sure how old that baby is...I bought it used 6 1/2 years ago..Ill just hope for the best.

Ive resealed my tanks (FW) with GE2 (Windows, doors, attic) for over 3 years. Reseal, put a fan to help dry it, and dont touch it for 2-3 days... its gonna be tough with Livestock already in though since it needs to be super dry
