I have a 24" T8 in my hood currently with room for a T12 diameter wise. My question is the T8 and T12 pin configuration the same

correct, and you would need a different ballast for the T12 lights or you could blow em out,,,Have you thought of adding another row of T8 inside the hood if it will fit?

i don't think i have room for another light. I just want something to show off my fish it doesnt have to be super bright. I just have a cheapy light that came with it, do you think putting in a coralife 50/50 will give me more light or just a different tone?

t 5s or even compact flourescents will give you more light and in a different tone than regular t-8 flourescents.. just get some cheap CF's with a reflector,,,,you can find cheap t5 ho's also i only spent $112 on one set of lights for my tank they are 4 ft long and have day, actinic and moon lights...
