Shouldn't be an issue... the negatives are the same as using rubbermaid tubs... can't look into them from the side... etc.
Coolers have the added issue that you probably can't put bulkheads in them being that they are so thick, but most folks don't need to do that anyway.

I have have the biggest mag drive that is exteriorly mounted to a glass sump. I want to put that mag drive into a larger sump and submersed to lessen the noise. I figured a 155 qt cooler would be long enough to accomodate all of the stuff in the sump. I thought about a rubber maid but figured I would have more stability in the sides and more durability with a cooler.
