got these online. said it was a seamat. every pic of zoas or a mat ive seen they were all even and looked like a blanket almost. these are all different heights (.5"-1.25") and seemed to be more spaced out instead of right next to eachother, even though they are all coming from the same base... so what exactly is it? is it a mat?

260w of pc (2x 65 actinic, 2x 12,000k) and a 40w (marine-glo actinic) standard fluorescent tube over a 55g. placement is about 3/5ths off the bottom of the tank. not too sure if lighting would be the issue though. as i have other zoas as well as a few mushrooms and an anemone at the very bottom doing fine. also have other zoas and mushrooms placed at the same level as the ones pictured and those are also doing fine. these zoas in the pic came looking exactly as they do now. they look good in person. always open unless they get disturbed by a shrimp or something. i've just never seen them vary in height so much if they are zoas. but then again, i am new to corals, so it may be very common for all i know....

They may be palys which grow taller then reg oo. What type of anenome do you have? Most require more lighting then you have.

i was thinking they may be palys. esp since they are longer than other zoas i've seen before. the heads aren't that large yet though, so i still really don't know. the anemone is only a simple haitan. i've had 2 condi's in there before for months with now issues either. all have thrived so far. (the condi's are no longer in there)

you have a zoanthid or palythoa
lots of kinds of zoanthids and palys will grow upwards if they dont have sufficient lighting
i bet the place you got them from had a little low lighting so they grew upwards to compensate
also if there is a lot of water flow then the skirt ( the little tentacles on the edges) will grow longer
it looks pretty cool actually
