Simple way of adding sand to an aquarium
Terry Siegel and Julian Sprung suggest that you attach some flexible tubing to a large funnel. Then pour the sand into the funnel and use the flexible tubing to direct it around the base of the reef. This method will help you distribute the sand around the aquarium bottom as well as prevent you from accidentally burying or upsetting your sessile invertebrates

done this. worked great. I used a 3/4 inch pvc pipe instead of the flwxible hose, but the idea is the same. Just add sand slowly so it doesn't clog up in the tube...

Heh, always willing to add my $0.02......... I have a near-inexhaustible supply of old US tuppence (although they were never called as such in the States, but I digress...)

.......and you can probably make a free (my favorite word this time of year) funnel from a plastic milk jug, soda bottle, etc.
