siphon problems

Ok, I've got a good one. I have a overflow that sucks small bubbles of air in with the water. After a day or two the air bubbles build up into a pocket of air at the top of my overflow that slows the water to my sump. Then all my water levels in my sump get messed up and I have to try sucking all that air out of the overflow.... every other day. It's starting to make me mad. And it's a nice overflow. I don't know what kind you would call it. There is no U tube. It's one solid pice of acrylic. I've checked to make sure there is no leaks. As the water flows down into the overflow it makes bubbles that get sucked up into the top. I don't know what to do....

They are called a Weir of something like that...
Some have a hole drilled in the top that you stick airline on and can remove bubbles easily. Or hook up to you powerhead and let it suck out any air...
I plan on building a Weir that features that.
Also try putting it away from and agitation devices that aerate the water.

It's not pulling bubbles from other areas of the tank.. it's creating them as it's pulling in water.

This is not a fix to your problem more of a band aid. When you get air in your overflow pour some water into it to force more flow through the tube. This should wash out the air bubble trapped in there. It works for my U-tube overflow. Not sure what your overflow looks like so you might want to post a picture.

heh i know about your ecact problem..my brother has a overflow that do that. it is a cpr typ.. well a look-a-like anyhow.. what u need to do is put something like a pre-filter in the box that is in the tank.. that will slow down the overflow speed a lil but it will keep the box full of water so less or no air is pulled in by the syphone.. and if that dont work.. u might have to keep the rubber hose on the '

[hr]
' where u suck the air out of.. then put a rubberband on the other end of the tube and stick that under a nearby powerhead ..(might wanna prop the '

[hr]
' side up a lil higher so air will float to that end) this might sound a lil confusing but any q's just ask..

I can't say about a CPR type overflow but with a U tube type the air pocket is caused by too little flow through the overflow. If yours has the top

[hr]
hooking it up to the venturi of a powerhead is the easiest fix unless you have the flow on your return restricted with a ball valve so you can increase the flow.

It's the cpr look alike type... if that makes any sence. I got it off ----. I love it... and I'm going to try the pre-filter and if that doesn't work, I'll try sticking the other end of the tube by a powerhead. Thanks for the ideas... I'm sure one of them will work.
