What does it mean when a sixline's eyes turn red? I caught mine chasing my jawfish around tonight. I didnt see the wrasse bite at the jawfish but the wrasses fins were flared and its eyes were a bright red. what does this mean? is my jawfish in danger?

i am talking about the white stripes turning an intense red color when the jawfish is around. when they seperate its eyes go back to normal. they meet again and back to red. my jawfish seemed very stressed out last night so I am guessing this is a sign of rage.

Actually many Italians have contributed research on this phenomenon which has been dubbed THE EVEL EYE I think your jawfish better watch out.
Seriously. I think your sixline was just flashing or posturing to show dominance. As I keep saying they are not angels

hmm. Well I didnt see the sixline actually attack the jawfish. just some chasing and a bit of a standoff. How much damage can a sixline do? I am getting a bellus angel and would hate for the wrasse to bully it.

Its not so much the physical damage it’s the constant harassment the sixline can do. That being said I have seen first hand what damage my sixline can do and it’s very extensive

I hate these fish. Watch it carefully. It may chase your jawfish so much it causes too much stress and then the jawfish will starve to death. If it stays a problem remove the six line. They do well with aggressive fish not passive fish.

Agree with Joe here, and it's also probably a defense mechanism to help "camofladge" himself better.

my jawfish hasnt been eating much lately
. maybe only 1-2 mysis shrimp a day. I think I am going to try and catch the wrasse because my jawfish is my favorite fish and I dont want to risk it harassing my bellus angel.

Ok first hand info. Plan your capture well. I would swear that my sixline when I tried to capture him learned my approach and acted accordingly to escape there after

I plan to go in during feeding time. And I use a clear plastic container in one hand with the lid in another hand. I hope maybe at a glance he wont realize its there. or even better I'll use a clear drinking glass. Besides the whole chasing the jawfish thing he is such a mellow fish. I really hate getting rid of him but no one messes with my jawfish.
