No, not that!!
I have been trying to resize a picture for my avatar and when I go to change it here, it says file too BIG!! I have resized it to less than 100x100 pixels. What else could be wrong?
Now keep in mind that my picture in on the cover of Computers for Dummies! I have done this before without a problem.
Now for some reason its a problem.
Any advice is appreciated! :)

What program are you using? What type of file are you saving it as? BMP, JPG or GIF? If it is a BMP, try saving it as a JPG file. If it is a JPG, try saving it as a GIF file.

If I'm not mistaken, there is a file size (a few kb) limit on the avatars. 99% of the time .gif files are much larger that .jpg file size.

I had to save my picture to another file, My Pictures. Go to that other file, right click the picture, choose edit then put the mouse on one side and drag it inward, that would eliminate that side of the picture, save it and brouse again. See if that makes it small enough, if not go back and make it smaller.
Note; This will not SHRINK your picture, it will cut off the edges..
HTH:)

P.S. Warn every one when you change pictures, I recognise most users by their picture!

In photoshop, however, you can opt to reduce colors (like 256 down to 116 or whatever) sometimes you can do this and the picture still looks good, and that can make the file much smaller than using a jpeg. If the jpeg file is too big, and you simply reduce the quality, it can make the picture blurry and crappy looking.
I like gifs much better when it comes to very small pictures.

Well as you can see I have not mastered it. YET!!
When I get home I will scan the pic again and start all over.
It kept telling me that the pic wasn't a GIF (it was) and to change it to the correct file.
I get the pics down to less than 100x100 but when I go to submit the change it says it must be less than 10,000 bytes. :notsure:

I am a stubborn irish girl, so I WILL figure this out. Thanks for the new info. I will try it tonight.

Here, this one works. Just save it on your computer and upload it as your avatar. I cropped it a bit so that the picture could be bigger.

THANK YOU ,THANK YOU!!!

Wow, it looks great. I guess I should ask how you did it.
I noticed it was a gif. You were right. I guess I wasn't switching mine over right. SWF kept saying it wasn't a gif and to change it over. :nope:
Like I said...user error

I just cropped it so that it would be closer to a 100x100 pixel picture when I resized it, sharpened it a bit, and upped the saturation a little. Then saved it as a gif. (with 256 colors)
You're welcome! Anytime!
