Size of a BTA.

How large will a BTA get?? I have had mine for about 8 months now (give or take) and he is HUGE compared to others I have seen. I would guestimate that he is at least 10" in diameter when he is "sun-bathing". He got caught in the PH's a while back, and I thought for sure he was doomed cause it ripped and crinkled his tenticles. But like your hair they are coming back and the crinkly part is moving further & further to the ends. He hasn't split, but he is SO stinkin big.
When can I expect him to stop growing?

from what i'v seen and read, i'd say he'll only get about 1-2 inchs. bigger, maybe and that's a big maybe. Got a picture of it? Maybe its not just a BTA, maybe its like some kind of BTA that grows really big(10-12inchs.)

Thats an old pic, lemme see if I have a newer one... Here, you can see that his mouth is on the far right, so he is that much bigger...

And real close, if there are other opinions as to his identity...

Here he is shriveled up to sleep, and he's still big. That clown is about 4 inches long... (not the orange one on the right... I was referring to the one "in" the anemone...)

Doesn't look like an BTA to me. That's probably the reason why it hasn't split. Looks more like an LTA to me.

I'm not 100% certain it is an LTA either, but that is what I think. LTA's do stay both on the rocks and substrate depending on what's better in your tank. The tentacles are very long to be a BTA, IME.
If it is indeed an LTA, it can grow up to 1 1/2 feet in diameter with 6" tentacles. LTA's are also not known to split in captivity.

Foot and a half huh??? NNOOOOOOOOO!!! Don't make me hafta find him another home... Guess I'll know soon enough.
His foot has never touched the substrate, he cruised the tank a couple of times, but he seems to like where he's at...for now. He planted himself right in front of the PH. When I had my PC's set up, he climbed the glass all the way to the top for more light. That's why I got MH's. (I love my nemone)
Can a LTA scale the glass? Or will it just die due to insufficient lighting? I am trying to troubleshoot this, I am not disagreeing with your "diagnosis". I am trying to find something he does or doesn't do that is not typical of one or the other, besides the substrate thing. If I can't find anything, I guess I'll just wait to see how big he gets.

LTA's still prefer a sand substrate, not the rocks. Tiz - why so much difference in color? or did my eyes skim over that part?
I've seen some pretty large BTA's the size of a man's head.

The brighter ones were under my actinic vho's. The blah ones were under 2 65w daylight/2 65w actinic PC's. And I upgraded my camera to a real one. :)
