Skilter400 conversion

I currently have a 55 fowlr using an Empor 400 and a skilter400. I am going to build a sump and was wondering if anyone is still using the skilter in the sump. My thinking was that maybe I could hook up a power head and hose into the skilter where the intake tube goes. However the skilter will take up alot of the sump. I am just trying to not buy yet another skimmer. Any one doing something similar? Other options are welcome. Thanks

Sorry to say,but the skimmer on the 400 model is compleatly worthless.It is however an excellent mechanical filter.You really should start looking for a better skimmer.I junked my 400 two or three months after I bought it.

Yes the 400 does not work. I have had 3 of them over the last couple of years and none worked at skimming. Now the 250 is a different story. Have 2 of them and they work great (why they work and 400 doesn't don't know). I got rid of 2 and use the 3rd as a regualr filter on my 45 along with a Emperor 280.

skimmer , filter , the filter is great, but skimmer ..... i wont go there, but im useing the skilter 400 in my sump, but i also have a remora protien skimmer to acctually do work as a skimmer , but its a good set up, very stable and if done right is low maintance

Tanker; You are wrong about one thing! My Dogface does like to have its back scratched when I clean its tank (you stated fish don't like to be petted). Actually it comes up to my hand while I am holding the siphon and hovers while I scratch and stroke its back then it swims away. It did bite me once tho and for that it went weeks before I trusted it enough to give it the back rub it wanted. WARNING THO "Do not try this at home yourself lol"

You made me remember that scene now but I am not that goofy (I hope anyway lol). When I do this I feel quite stupid but what the heck where else can one scratch a foot long fish with teeth the size of godzilla (at least they look that big) and still have a hand left. Watch now in time I'll be posting here left handed due to lack of fingers on right hand.
