I recently came across the subject of the skilter problem. I remeber that sundog and Mr. Salty were trying to find a better way to make it quieter. Well I was looking on the MSG Board over at Aquariacentral.com...

Anyone out there remember the modification to the Skilter 400 to make the skimmer work more efficent and quiet? Seahunt1

Main things I remember:
Material List:
1. about 10" rigid 1/4" airline tubing
2. wooden airstone
3. silicone aquarium sealant
4. length of flexible airline tubing
5. air pump
Tools:
1. Drill with 3/16" bit
2. fingers
With the collector and cover in-place, mark the center of the reactor chamber on the collector cover. Remove cover, and drill a 3/16" hole at the mark. Insert rigid airline tubing through hole, to the proper depth to put airstone at the bottom of the Skilter's reactor chamber (dry fitting everything will be helpfull). Use silicone sealant to "glue" rigid tubing in-place in the cover. Let set 24 hours. Put airstone on end of rigid tubing, put cover in place on the skilter, connect air pump via flexible tubing, close venturi valve on Skilter, and plug the whole mess in! Voila. . . modified junk! LOL Sorry, I couldn't resist!
Hope this helps, and that I didn't stupidly overlook anything!
